The Truth Untold LIVE PERFORMANCE. Free but donations encouraged. All ages. Set time: Friday August 2nd at 9:00 pm. Strummerfest is a celebration of indie music and charitable giving in the memory and spirit of the late Joe Strummer (The Clash) who lost a family member due to suicide. Per the most recent statistics, suicide is Canada’s 9th most common killer. Unlike most major diseases, it is preventable. For many people, it just takes an infusion of hope. Strummerfest aims to help with that. We primarily support Your Life Counts and the Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council. Strummerfest is entirely non-profit, particularly with respect to its organizers who are all volunteers, and most bands perform at discounted rates or for no fee at all. In our first year, more than 20 independent bands and individual performers graced Strummerfest’s seven different downtown Kitchener stages. While its origins are rooted in a love of "punk" music, artists of all genres are invited to attend and perform, noting that Joe Strummer himself was famous for stating that, "Punk is an attitude, not a style." In other words, Strummerfest celebrates "music with substance." That's what Strummer was about; it's something Strummerfest seeks to encourage. The event runs from Friday August 2nd beginning at 2:00 pm until Saturday August 3rd ending at 11:00 pm at Waterloo's Public Square (75 King St S, Waterloo, ON N2J 1P2)
